The detection of left ventricular scar by delayed enhancement-CMR in non-ischemic cardiomyopathy is a stronger predictor of cardiovascular events than left ventricular ejection fraction

چکیده
Background Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is a strong predictor of subsequent cardiovascular events in patients with ischemic and non-ischemic cardiomyopathy. CMR is an excellent technique for assessment of LVEF as well as for the detection of myocardial scar. We sought to evaluate if the presence of myocardial scarring in nonischemic cardiomyopathy could be an important predictor of cardiovascular events.

The Correlation between Left and Right Ventricular Ejection Fractions in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Documented by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Introduction: The correlation between right and left ventricular ejection fractions (RVEF and LVEF, respectively) has been studied in only a small number of patients with a marked decrease in RVEF and LVEF. The aim of the present study was to compare LVEF and RVEF in patients with ischemic heart disease. RVEF and LVEF were measured by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials a...
متن کاملDetection of left ventricular thrombus by delayed-enhancement cardiovascular magnetic resonance prevalence and markers in patients with systolic dysfunction.
OBJECTIVES This study sought to assess the prevalence and markers of left ventricular (LV) thrombus among patients with systolic dysfunction. BACKGROUND Prior studies have yielded discordant findings regarding prevalence and markers of LV thrombus. Delayed-enhancement cardiovascular magnetic resonance (DE-CMR) identifies thrombus on the basis of tissue characteristics rather than just anatomi...
متن کاملInfarct characterization and quantification by delayed enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is a powerful independent and incremental predictor of mortality in patients with advanced ischemic cardiomyopathy.
BACKGROUND Infarct heterogeneity has been shown to be independently associated with adverse outcomes in previous smaller studies. However, it is unknown whether infarct characterization is an independent predictor of all-cause mortality in patients with advanced ischemic cardiomyopathy, after adjusting for clinical risk factors, severity of ischemic mitral regurgitation, incomplete revasculariz...
متن کاملEvaluating the significance of left ventricular midwall fibrosis detected by late gadolinium enhancement imaging on left ventricular functional remodelling in dilated cardiomyopathy
Background Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is associated with a 20% 5 year mortality rate. We identified that the presence of left ventricular (LV) midwall fibrosis, detected by CMR late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), was associated with a 5 fold increased risk of cardiovascular death and adverse events, independently of established predictors of outcome. The natural course of DCM is however variab...
متن کاملEvaluation of Cardiac Mitochondrial Function by a Nuclear Imaging Technique using Technetium-99m-MIBI Uptake Kinetics
Mitochondria play an important role in energy production for the cell. The proper function of a myocardial cell largely depends on the functional capacity of the mitochondria. Therefore it is necessary to establish a novel and reliable method for a non-invasive assessment of mitochondrial function and metabolism in humans. Although originally designed for evaluating myocardial perfusion, 99mTc...
